Conero GTX<\/strong>, the famous hiking boot<\/strong> created in collaboration with designer Pier Callegarini turns 30 years old. AKU is celebrating the anniversary with a special edition<\/strong>. The limited edition<\/strong> model has been produced in three colours variants, each one holding a specific meaning<\/strong> bound to the history and evolution of the brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An ancient manufacturing tradition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Montebelluna<\/strong>. Treviso. A small provincial district in Italy, quickly became one of the great world centres<\/strong> of sports footwear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the most popular footwear in the world (even beyond sport), such as the Air Jordan 2 <\/strong>(1986), have been created and produced in Montebelluna, as well as many shoes through which numerous athletes have written sports history<\/strong> in a wide range of disciplines: football, tennis, cycling, etc.. It is right here in Montebelluna that AKU’s story originated, in a context<\/strong> and environment<\/strong> of production and tradition that major brands have chosen to bring quality, creativity and craftsmanship typical of Made in Italy<\/strong> into their footwear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actually, all these values have been inscribed in AKU’s history since its origins. It is no coincidence that AKU was born with Galliano Bordin, who comes from a family of shoemakers<\/strong>, with great experience in repairing shoes using top quality raw materials and traditional craftsmanship techniques. Galliano grew up in this micro-universe, in a family expert in leather<\/strong> cutting<\/strong>, accurate selection<\/strong> of<\/strong> materials<\/strong>, meticulous<\/strong> stitching<\/strong> of uppers and careful<\/strong> fixing<\/strong> of soles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very soon Galliano Bordin evolved<\/strong> the<\/strong> business<\/strong>, taking advantage of the family’s ancient manufacturing<\/strong> tradition<\/strong> to inaugurate a new venture, based on the handcrafted production of footwear<\/strong>. The company gradually specialised in the creation of models for mountaineering<\/strong>, trekking<\/strong>, alpine skiing<\/strong> and cross-country skiing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AKU, from legend to a successful business venture<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The company’s first name was DINSPORT. <\/strong>Then, in the 1990s, the founder decided to change direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the new journey, Galliano Bordin chose “AKU<\/strong>.” A short, easy-to-remember<\/strong> name that evokes the sensitivity of the world the products address. “AKU AKU” is the name given to a “benevolent spirit<\/strong>” (with a protective disposition) in one of the ancient<\/strong> legends<\/strong> handed down by the natives of Easter Island. The choice turns out to be a lucky one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first important successful model is “SLOPE<\/strong>,” a hiking shoe that combines functionality<\/strong> (it is very light and comfortable), quality<\/strong> (the upper is made of leather and fabric) and design<\/strong> (it is colorful and so meets the tastes of the time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Evolution: From Lenses to Footwear<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In a short time, SLOPE spreads widely among hikers. Thanks to Galliano’s intuition<\/strong> to later insert an inner<\/strong> membrane<\/strong> to make the shoe waterproof and breathable, the model becomes a must-have<\/strong> for hiking enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still today, SLOPE (which later became “SLOPE GTX” due to the implementation of the GORE-TEX<\/strong> membrane) is one of the favorite<\/strong> models<\/strong> for mountain footwear in the Italian Alps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How the Conero GTX from AKU was born.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Conero GTX shoe’s concept dates back to the early 1990s<\/strong>. To create this shoe, Galliano Bordin engaged young Italian designer Pier Callegarini<\/strong>, who proved to be extremely<\/strong> talented<\/strong> in implementing the innovative ideas of functionality<\/strong>, durability<\/strong> and comfort<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the sole, an essential component of the footwear, AKU collaborates with Vibram<\/strong>. To support all the features required by the Conero GTX, the famous brand specially designs and develops the “Four\u00e0<\/strong>” sole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind the success, once again, is the meeting of functionality, quality, design, style, technology and durability. Several years and trends have gone by, but the Conero is still an evergreen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30 years later, AKU is celebrating the anniversary by making a special limited edition<\/strong> model, which hides three meanings and as many intrinsic<\/strong> values<\/strong>. A true<\/strong> gem<\/strong> for mountain enthusiasts<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Conero 30 GTX has been conceived, designed and produced by focusing, on the one hand, on the glorious tradition<\/strong> that has driven its success and, on the other hand, on the technical<\/strong> innovation<\/strong>, unique design and commitment<\/strong> that have been the hallmarks of AKU and the brand partners that have been collaborating on the project since the 1990s<\/strong>. Still today, AKU assembles many of its footwear by traditional craftsmanship techniques<\/strong>.
